San
Jacinto
For a close-up but non-life-threatening view of dramatic volcanic
activity, a day trip to the “mudpots” of San Jacinto is the way to go.
The mudpots are areas of mud set to boiling by magmatic steam and gases
below the earth’s surface, and they are accompanied by fumaroles, dry
holes that expel smoke and steam from the heat of the underlying magma.
Both the presence of these phenomena and their arrangement hint at a
fault line in the crust of the Earth. A truly unique experience!
